Shadowhunters Season One Review
The show follows 18 year-old, Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) realise that her world is not as it seems as she finds out that she is a Shadowhunter; she's thrown into the deep end of the Shadow World with her best friend (Alberto Rosende).
To save her Mum, she has to train with others of her kind including Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood), Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia) and Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) and go after the Mortal Cup to stop the series villain his plan to ruin the Shadow World.
If you love the The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices books, there is a good chance that you will not like this TV show; it doesn't really follow the first book and the storyline of the first book is skipped over and rushed in the TV show.
The first few episodes of this show are terrible. The beginning of episode one is four minutes of music; it's like an extended music video and doesn't set a good tone for the rest of the show. The next few episodes aren't much better; the acting isn't that great and only Matthew Daddario and Alberto Rosende give good performances.
The characters are loveable and as much as you find Clary Fray annoying, you're rooting for her to save her Mother and as much as you don't like Valentine, you still kind of have a soft spot for him.
Even though the show isn't brilliant, it has something about it that reels you in and makes you want to binge-watch the show again after finishing it. It's a rather odd feeling. You will want to tell everyone that the show is terrible and to not bother watching it, but it's your guilty pleasure.
Shadowhunters ... You either love it or hate it. You will either invest loads of your time in this show and crave season two, or you will want to delete any vestige of it out of your life because it was a waste of your time.
What happened to me? I got sucked in and now, I am so invested in the lives of these characters that I have now watched season one three times.

Shadowhunters Pilot Episode Review
Based on the bestselling series by Cassandra Clare, this disappointing first episode doesn't live up to it's amazing paper counter-part.
There were high hopes for the Shadowhunters TV show and the 2013 film: The Mortal Instruments: The City of Bones, was better than the TV show - which is apparently saying something since the film was a flop at the cinemas (personally, I liked it).
The first few minutes of the pilot episode were like an action music video, introducing three of the main characters - Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood), Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia) and Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) - whilst blasting pop music until your ears bleed.

After the opening few minutes, it's a bumpy road for the rest of the episode. The scenes with Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) and Simon Lewis (Alberto Rosende) are just about watchable, with their casual conversations and Simon hinting that he's in love with Clary. Rosende is probably one of the better actors in the pilot. Even though he's not one of the main characters, he steps up to the plate to take on the slack that the other actors have left.

The worst of all is the club scene in Pandemonium. Again, pop music blasting and it's too fast-paced, there's too much going on and it's hard to keep up. This seems to be a regular occurrence throughout the episode. Too much happens, we're introduced to too many characters and it ruins it.

The pilot episode was a fail, even though it raked in a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.82 million viewers in the U.S alone. Obviously the hype was too much. We'll have to see what the ratings are like for the second episode.
Hopefully, the show will come back and be brilliant like it should be. The second episode has to be better. It has to be. They tried to cover too much ground in the first episode so let's hope they slow it down for the next couple of episodes.

Shadowhunters New Poster!

If you are a massive fan of the Mortal Instruments series (books or film) keep reading.
If you don't know already, there isn't going to be a sequel to the 2014 film but there is going to be a television series based on the series of books by Cassandra Clare.
The books were a massive success and even the prequel series - the Infernal Devices - have been successful so it's safe to say that this TV show is going to be a hit. If they do it right.
Katherine McNamara will star as the badass female lead, Clary Fray, along with Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland and Alberto Rosende as Simon Lewis.
Trailers:
Shadowhunters premiers on 12th January on ABC Family (now known as Freeform) in the US.
Date unknown for UK release.
